MISSIONS -  To glorify God by effectively using the community of Redeemer to bring Gospel awareness and Shalom worldwide

Committee chairperson:  Larry Bailey,

RECENT AND COMING EVENTS:

  • 2007, Uganda:  During 2007 Redeemerites raised funds to contribute towards the new buildings for the Westminster Theological College and Seminary.  Phase 1A has now broken ground for housing 48 resident students.  See the Photo Gallery.  Redeemer continues to support Dave and Darlene Eby in their missionary work there.

  • 2007, Japan:  Redeemerite Jessica Wey served in Japan at the International Christian Academy of Nagoya, founded by PCA missionaries to meet the educational needs of the community.  Jessica helped start, organize and teach at the preschool; taught after-school English classes; participated in a university ministry to college students; and served at Nisshin Christ Church, a PCA church plant.  The Gospel was presented to parents and children in an environment where only 1% of the country profess themselves to be Christians.

MISSIONS COMMITTEE VISION:

Redeemer Church will continue to support mission efforts in people groups and cultures outside the United States.  Within the geographic areas of sub-Saharan Africa, Asia/Pacific, Europe, Latin America, North America and other unreached people groups, Redeemer Church will give preference to mission activities in receptive areas, as determined by the following characteristics:

  1. Areas with a relatively low population of people who associate themselves with any specific church, Christian denomination, or other religion
  2. Areas where there are no reformed congregations
  3. Areas where a reformed congregation has just been established or is in the process of being established
  4. Areas where existing work may already be in place and supported by the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) "Mission to the World"

MISSIONS COMMITTEE GOALS:

  1. educate the local congregation on world missions
  2. help the church achieve a clear sense of direction
  3. ensure that funds for missions are wisely spent
  4. keep the church focused on the major reasons for mission
  5. avoid making decisions on an emotional or haphazard basis
  6. bring new committee members up to date on our purposes and scope of work
  7. maintain consistency and direction as our committee changes membership
  8. support those world mission ministries that prioritize gospel, community, mission and shalom.  These ministries will include as appropriate emphasis on mercy/social justice/caring for suffering/serving pooras well as efforts to transform culture and reconcile individuals
  9. encourage and support the Redeemer missionaries fiscally, spiritually, morally, and financially
  10. encourage raising up, training, supporting and sending of new missionaries from within Redeemer
